Full Remodel Plans for Existing ADU, Poster
Rhino, Vectorworks, Adobe Illustrator
The Shadows was created in my Intro to Interior Architecture class. The assignment for this project was to choose a pre-existing ADU (additional dwelling unit) structure in Oakland or Berkeley and to remodel it with a strong concept. The project asked us to address some questions: How does the special program you selected inform your design? How do your ideas about private/public space inform the interior space? How do some of your early ideas about light and shadow inform your space? How does your ADU consider novel living arrangements? After choosing to analyze how light/shadow changes a space, I landed on the concept of The Shadows. Taking into consideration the building's orientation and the movement of the sun, the cutouts along the south wall and North roofline cast beautiful geometric stripes as the sun rises and sets. Created with sustainability and hosting in mind, The Shadows makes this effortless with the rooftop deck and open floor plan.
Final Poster

Pre & Schematic Design Stage
After identifying my chosen existing ADU in Berkeley, Ca., I began the schematic design stage of this project. I conducted a site analysis and translated three different approaches to the computer using Rhino in addition to rendering the existing ADU structure.

Option #1
Option #2
Option #3

Design Development Stage
After ultimately choosing option #3, I began to develop the design further. I did a more thorough rendering of my proposed plan, creating a more in depth plan and exploded axonometric with Rhino and Adobe Illustrator.

Final Poster
After compiling all elements, and creating the final assets, I constructed a poster demonstrating the full proposed remodel.
